Dark Venture was a two semester solo project based between a game design and level design class. The premise behind it was you control a character, a repair robot, tasked with bringing back light to the world. Within this world you'll face challenges from corrupted AI looking to absorb your precious light, challenging environments, and the worse enemy of all, darkness.

I used various elements from platformers and adventure games to create a dynamic environment that would keep the player interested all the way through. With various AI and Upgrades the player can choose the play the game in different ways to discover the best way through the world.

I created my own custom modular kit for the game. Most of the game is made from the image above and to the left. Many of these share texture maps and can be swapped out with similar pieces to make various rooms. I went with an all grey color scheme to prevent player confusion since the game objectives are color based. All bottom trim has emissive lights the player can follow if they get lost.

This is the main texture file with a snapshot of the UV setup. About 20 different meshes use this set including all of the pillars the floor and the ceiling pieces. So far there are only three sets for the basic set pieces and two others for landmark areas to minimize load time and draw calls as the player is progressing through the level, making the game run smoother.
